A Trip to Sentosa

4 11 2009

Blog Post by Hui Xian, FS0901

A trip to Sentosa . Special thanks to the people who came for this class outing, especially Irine who spent $100 to book a ticket to come to Singapore from Indonesia just to join us for the outing!

First, we met at Vivo City at 12.00pm then we took a monorail to Sentosa beaches. Next, we took a tram to Siloso beach. We prefer Siloso beach to other beaches because it had facilities such as the basketball court, volleyball court, wider open space and more for us to have our activities. Although it was only half the class, we still played very uncontrollably in high spirits. We played different types of games such as basketball, volleyball, captain ball, Frisbees and dog and bone. Among all the games, most of us loved captain ball and dog and bone. There were the most interesting among all and most of us were familiar with them. After these exciting activities, we also had our picnics to replenish our energy. We drank water and ate some tidbits. Everyone bought different snacks so we had a wide range of variety of snacks and chips. People tended to be lazier after eating so we did not carry on our ball activities. Instead we played cards game followed by captain ball. When we felt that we were sick of the games, we decided to have some water activities. Some of us played ball games in the sea while others played water bomb. When everyone was drenched, we cleaned and packed up our stuffs then headed to toilets to have our shower.

Once everyone was ready, we started to take out our handphone to snap photos of each other and have a group photo. It was evening time; everyone was exhausted after a day and was hunger for food. We went to Habourfront coffee shop to have our dinner. After eating, we took train back together. Although it was long and tiring day in Sentosa, everyone enjoyed ourselves. We are looking forward to another class outing. This time hopefully whole class can come together and have fun.

Drug Trail

As part of the School Outreach and Promotion Programmes, SCL(LS) organised a Medicinal Chemistry workshop entitled “DrugTrail@NYP” on 21 Oct 09. The aim of this workshop is to showcase the application of thin layer chromatography, an important analytical method in pharmaceutical sciences. A total of 25 students and 3 teachers from 5 secondary schools took part in this workshop. The participants learnt about the concepts and techniques of TLC. They also acquired the hands-on experience of applying TLC to identify the active ingredients in common pain killers such as Panadol, Panadol Extra, Aspirin and Nurofen.

Blog Post by Jack, FS0801

On 1st Oct , some of us ( Hui Hui , Geoff , Jeremy , Devi , Ai Jin , Lay Khean and me ( Jack) ) from FS0801 went to prawn together =) It was the first time some of us went prawning and it was overall fun and entertaining. Despite some of us not having the “magical touch” to catch the prawn. We had enough people with the “magical touch” to ensure we had prawns to eat by the end of the day :D

Some of us fishing for prawn ( Boring when no prawny )

Here’s a blog entry about our National Education trips. The first trip we went was the visit to the fire station gallery. It is such an honor to stand in the oldest fire station in Singapore even though it is open to public on weekends. We were filled with information about the history of the fire station. We were also given a chance to see the fire engine in the past and fire engine of the present. There is really a big change! We also learnt various types of forces which cater to different situations, including the dog teams that are meant to find bodies or drugs. Oh well, did it sound boring? Actually not, while we listen to the man who is talking to us, he will joke around here and there trying to make the talk as enjoyable as possible.

See the pole behind? You actually need technique to slide down

Remember about the different forces I told you? This force controls the dog.

The second trip we went was about fire safety. Oh wow, the fire station is huge and the only lift there seems to be only cargo lift. Anyway, we are going to the lecture room to have lecture. YES, in school we have lectures, now even in fire station. During the lecture, we were taught the different level of fire, we are also taught about different fire need to use different method to extinguish the fire off as wrong method might cause the fire to get bigger. Next we went for demonstration where we were allowed to use fire extinguisher on a live fire. Not a thing we can do in our daily life, and even better if it we don’t even need to do that.

Does it look like his suit is going to get fire?

Fire extinguished!

Another MB0702 Class Outing – Jovan’s 21st Birthday

13 10 2009

Blog Post by Norbert Ha, MB0702

We had a great gathering at east coast chalet just before final year exam. Everyone was busy with assignment and preparation for final year exam. That’s why it’s necessary to get a quick break. Such a coincidence that Jovan’s birthday was just before the final year exam. It was Jovan’s 21st birthday! Wish him happy birthday and may all his wishes come true!

FS0903 Rocks!

Blog Post by FS0903

This is FS0903, the class of jokers.

It had been one semester here since we have been together and hopefully forever even after 3 years. Let’s flow back to our old memory to the day of orientation. Wasn’t everyone shy back then? The class was so quiet until the point that a pin drop could be heard. Yup, that is how quiet we are. Even when our mentor, Johnny asks us question, everyone was reluctant to answer. However, time have help us greatly.

Here was our first picture!

FS0903

Don’t we all look interesting?

Now, you might wonder how we overcome our shyness. Let’s turn the clock forward, to the time of team building! Team building, where we strengthen our bond together as a class. On a second thougt, it might not be a good idea at all. Everyone was still shy when we were split into pairs! We did not dare to find any partner. Gladly, the teacher helps us by randomly giving us a partner. There, we just made a new friend. We do activities and this is where all the noises came in! Everyone started to communicate. In the end, we get nothing but friendship.

However! Now, let’s come back to the present day! What is it like to be in FS0903 now? To be quite honest, it is quite scary to think about it. We can only think of 4 words to describe ourselves now which is noisy, random, funny and serious. Without the 3 of them, we are not FS0903. You might be wondering, where is the shyness? It is long gone now and now, this is true FS0903. However, when it is the time for us to get down to work, we can be really serious. But when it is time to play, we play hard too. Don’t believe us? See what had we done on the practical.

To end off, I want to write something which the whole class agree: FS0903 ROCKS!

PS0701 celebrates NDP at NYP!

31 08 2009

Blog post by Evelyn Soh, PS0701

It’s National day!!
Ok, actually its been 3 weeks since national day is over.

In the morning when we walk pass the Macdonald, we saw this white board with all the well wishes for Singapore. So, we decide to write down our class’s “big” name , since its already the last year in school.

PS0701

Can you see it?
Is it big enough?

Anyway, we went to attend the National Day Celebration held at the auditorium and as usual, we have to wear either red or white clothings.
This year celebration is slightly different, as the performances were replaced by showcasing the National Education project done by the current Year 2s. Some of the videos can be quite boring but some are interesting.
Personally, I like the video of the puppets, made from the socks.
I think it’s interesting and pretty creative.

After the performance ended, our class took a class picture!
It’s probably going to be the last class picture taken together since we are going on our attachment in the blink of an eye, now that our exams have already ended as well.
Quite a number of us are going to be attached to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, some are attached to NHG polyclinics, there is also somebody going to be attached at National Cancer Centre (NCC), which i think should be an interesting experience. Others are attached to either retail pharmacy (ie. Unity, Watsons) or Singapore General Hospital.

Class photo (National Day)

this photo is probably going to be the last class photo before the graduation ceremony?
each of us are going to be busy with our own attachment and individual final year projects.
hopefully, we still have time to meet up with each other.

With this picture, I shall end the blog entry for now.
Have a good holiday, everyone!
(and all the best for the attachment, my classmates! Ganbatte!)
